I have an 1863 1 cent Hawaiin stamp
which I do not see covered in the Scott Catalogue. Missing is the "D" in
ISLAND at the top of the stamp. Does anyone know if this is a valid stamp?
I was not able to paste this stamp on this page. If you give me an email
address, I can download a picture.
Thank you.

I am a dealer of U.S. and Foreign Postal History, and a collector of Hawaiian Postal History as it relates to disinfected mail, e.g. cholera, plague and leprosy periods in Hawaii. Your site is fantastic! One of the best, if not the best I have seen. The details of the cancels and covers are excellent and the scans first rate. I learned something today regarding a cancel I currently have on eBay, that it is not from the STR. WAIMEA but the STR. W.G. HALL!

Collected English (England)FDCs, but became disillusioned with their "modern" designs and awful looking stamps, so I gave up. I have a few Hawaiian stamps, but I specialize in unique frankings, such as the first day of the new Japanese emperor, and the last and first dates of the 2nd and 3rd millenniums, which I believe are unique because most post offices around the world were closed on those two dates (being Sunday and New Year's Day), and FDCs marking the first mail flights after WWII from Japan to Hawaii. I frequently visit Hawaii, thus my interest in the islands. Regards, Bob Sarnia.

For many years I've specialized in Hawaii postage, Hawaii subject matter(HSM) stamps from anywhere, and a strong interest in First Day Covers (singles, combos, blocks, suedo-blocks) of USA "HSM" stamps such as, but not limited to: Scott US C46, C55, C84, 647, 648, 799, 1153, 1682, 1732, 1733, 1784, 1830, 1963, 2311, 2080, 2559-I, 2669, 2863-2866, 3105C, 3224, 3571, UX81, U627, etc. Do you know of any other USA "HSM" stamps? I enjoy making my own cachets for the FDC's as well as using the commercially printed cachets.

I heard the postal service had a route on my island's east side and would like to know what years steamers and a historic ala loa trail were used to distribute mail. Please tell me your source(s) for the trail delivery. Also, I am very keen to know if the US Government spent any funds on maintaining the trail for mail delivery. Is there any evidence the Kingdom of Hawaii spent funds on the trail and if so, what is the original source documentation? Thank you!

As a amateur stamp collector, I have been wading through a worldwide collection

My greatest interest is in postal history.
My ancestors arrived in Hawaii in the 1840s and so my interests have focused
on stampless covers from the 1840s and 1850s and postage covers from the
1860s through the 1880s. My greatgrandfather, A.V. Gear, owned the Hawaiian
Stamp Co. in Honolulu in the 1890s and early 1900s. I have a number of Registered
letters to the HSCo. from the late 1890s from various countries, including
the United States. I also have an interest in inter-island covers.
